Welcome to my blog! franktheitprof is the blog of Frank Katz, a professor of Information Technology at Armstrong State University, in Savannah, GA. A little about me . . .
I graduated from the University of Florida in 1977 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Information Sciences. From what I understand, the CIS degree was so new to UF that when I graduated, the class of ’77 was the 3rd or 4th graduating class at UF with students earning a degree in CIS. I hold a Master of Science in Management from Georgia State University, earned in 1987 while I was working in Management Information Services for Coca-Cola USA.
After graduating from UF, I spent 4 yrs in the Army as a Combat Engineer officer, rising to the rank of Captain. I then spent 21 yrs in industry (Arthur Andersen & Co., Coca-Cola USA, Great Dane Trailers Inc., Savannah Foods and Industries, and HO Systems/Verisign) as an IT professional.
I have been a professor of IT @ Armstrong State University since 2002. My areas of interest include database analysis, systems analysis & design methods, and especially, information/cyber security. I have been published in the Digital Library of the ACM, and am a long-time member of ACM. I am an Associate Editor of the Information Security Education Journal. I am also a member of Infragard, which is a partnership between the FBI and the private sector, an association of persons who represent businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the U.S.
